Handiwork

Mariam and her friend Daliyah visit Rivka. But Rivka and her husband fight over his work as tax collector. He thinks Mariam visits to talk with him about Moussa’s taxes. Rivka apologizes and asks to walk back with Mariam.

Daily Bread

Mariam eats in the fields with Dawud. When she walks back, she spots a young man named Yacoub struggling with oxen in the field. She laughs and smiles at him. But at home, Moussa tells her that his cousin has proposed a marriage.

Troubled Times

Yacoub rushes Ayoub back from the fields. He’s bloody and broken by robbers who came after their flocks. The women rush him inside and gently lay him down. Sara’s frantic and asks where Dawud is. Ayoub says he wasn’t there.

The Wind and the Wells

Rivka and Laila board up the well of a widow, Amira. But Laila gets very tired and sick. At home, Sara and Mariam snap at each other about their mother. But Laila tells them to stop fighting.

Finding Peace

Dawud rushes in and gathers a few things to go into hiding. Mariam tries to talk to him, but he assures her, she and the family will be okay. He’s doing this for them. He says goodbye to Laila and starts to leave when there’s a knock at the door.

A frustrated Sara talks with Rivka about her hatred for the thieves who hurt Ayoub and stole half their flock. Rivka encourages her to forgive them when Haroon passes through. He looks suspiciously at Sara.

Cleaning the Lamps

Yacoub and his father visit. Mariam rushes in to tell Moussa and Laila, then runs back out to lead the father and son into the front room. Mariam nervously tries to get a meal prepared and helps her father dress.

Wedding Day

Moussa and Laila remember their own wedding day as they prepare for Mariam’s wedding. Mariam sits with the women of her family to prepare. Laila’s relieved to find out that Dawud will be attending the wedding.

The Dropped Stitch

Moussa accuses Rivka’s husband of telling the Romans where Dawud might be. Rivka says her husband had nothing to do with it. She’s shocked Moussa would speak to her so rudely. Ayoub apologizes. Moussa only gets more upset.

Ayoub and Moussa wait outside as Sara has her baby. Just as she’s born, Yacoub arrives. The men congratulate each other and rush inside when Noura invites them to. Sara sits with a beautiful girl in her arms.

Sharing the News

Moussa complains about his blindness as Dawud prepares for work. Dawud asks permission to share his story with the family when they come to celebrate the baby’s birth. Moussa begrudgingly agrees.
